Meet the Artist

I’m Rachel — a mixed media artist living in Cornwall.
Like many people, I’m drawn to the coast and inspired by nature for countless reasons. But for me, it goes deeper than scenery. I’m endlessly fascinated by how the natural world works, in constant awe of the views it offers us, and completely captivated by colourful skies and the mystery of what lies beyond them. There’s a power and quiet magic in nature that never stops amazing me.
For the past few years, I’ve worked primarily with fibre and textiles, creating tactile artworks that explore the colours, textures, and subtle shifts I notice on my coastal walks. Through weaving, layering, and soft blended tones, I’ve been translating those sensory moments into pieces designed to bring calm, depth, and feeling into interior spaces.
Recently, though, I’ve felt a gentle but persistent pull back toward paint — a desire to explore the same sense of wonder in a new way. Expanding into painting and mixed media has opened up a different kind of expression, allowing me to capture light, atmosphere, and emotion with more fluidity while still staying rooted in texture and depth.
I’ve always been someone who notices small moments. When something catches my attention or stirs a feeling, I instinctively reach for my phone to capture it. Over the years, I’ve taken thousands of photos of sunrises from my home — each one slightly different, each one holding a distinct mood, colour story, and energy. These fleeting moments are the seeds of my work. Photographing them allows me to return to those feelings again and again, long after the light has changed.
This growing archive of sky, sea, and shifting light has now become the foundation for a new strand of my practice: a catalogue of digital artworks created from my own photographs. These pieces sit alongside and support my original paintings, allowing more people to bring those same moments of calm, awe, and connection with nature into their spaces.
At the heart of everything I create is a desire to hold onto a feeling — to translate the energy of a moment in nature into something tangible. My work is an invitation to pause, breathe, and reconnect with the quiet wonder that exists all around us.
